I approached Phil at JD Engineering asking if he would be able to lease me a 3D printer to help me create an authentic and immersive school project. From the outset Phil was incredibly supportive not only in the leasing of the 3D printer but also in terms of supporting me to understand how to get the best of it for the children. He was also really knowledgeable when it came to recommending software that I could use that would help engage the children in the engineering aspect of the project. Any issues with the technology were dealt with swiftly and Phil was always available to assist in any way he could.
The aim of our project was to create a sustainable city based on our learning around how to create sustainable buildings and the things that we would need to do in the future to make sure that our increasingly urban populations have clean safe spaces to live in.
The children were able to design and then 3D print their own buildings using the 3D printer leased to us, this created a tangible product that the children could talk about and share with others across the school. Having this resource helped to create not only an engaging engineering based project but also produced a quality finished product that was then displayed at an exhibition evening, where members of the community came to look at what the children had created. Needless to say it blew them away!
I would heartily recommend Phil and his team, their approachability, professionalism and knowledge was fantastic from start to finish.
